Our Instructors

Connie Geerts was born in 1965, the youngest of six, and raised on a farm in Southwestern Ontario. Her childhood was filled with unsupervised adventures and evenings drawing with her siblings around the kitchen table.

She began her professional art career after moving to Canada’s West Coast in 1987. Though she explored many materials, she fell in love with acrylic painting—a medium she continues to work with today. During this time, she also worked as a video editor and explored sculpture, joining the Vancouver Island Sculptors Guild. By 1997, Geerts was exhibiting in galleries and has been represented consistently ever since.

A move to Calgary in 2000 allowed her to focus more deeply on art. Her editing background began to influence her painting style, which took on the look of fragmented digital imagery. In 2005, she discovered glass kiln casting while studying bronze in Mexico, and was drawn to the same luminous quality she found in acrylics. This sparked a passion for mixed media sculpture, combining cast glass or resin with contrasting materials.

Today, Geerts divides her time equally between painting and sculpture, working from her home studios in Calgary, Alberta.
